Neurogastroenterology focuses on the study of the interactions between the nervous system and the digestive system. Researchers and clinicians in this field study the underlying mechanisms which often involve complex interactions between the brain, gut, and microbiome. This interdisciplinary field brings together expertise from neurology, gastroenterology, and psychology to better understand and treat conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), functional dyspepsia, and other disorders of gut-brain interaction. Treatment approaches may include dietary modifications, medications, behavioral therapy, and interventions targeting the nervous system or gastrointestinal function.
